What is Narcolepsy?

Narcolepsy is a disorder of the Brain that causes its victims to have excessive sleepiness. Some people who have narcolepsy have it worse than others. It sometimes causes Cataplexy to its victims. Narcolepsy cannot be cured. Narcolepsy is caused by the inability to regulate seep cycles normally. The victims cannot sleep through the night. And there muscles sometimes collapse.

 

Who does it affect?

Narcolepsy affects one in every 2,000 Americans. It cannot be inherited and only 3% of people with narcolepsy have close family members with it. It is also not contagious.

 

Living with it

First you need to find out what times you are the sleepiest. Then you need to plan well for those times, make sure you are not alone and make sure you are not doing any thing that  might cause problems if you suddenly fall asleep, like driving or operating other machinery. Avoid locking doors such as bathrooms or offices You can take medications to deal with it but they will not cure it. If you have a very bad version of it you might not be able to work or go to school



What could Happen With Narcolepsy
-You could fall asleep at any time, even at work.
-You can fall asleep when you least expect it, when you may not even be tired at all.
-You might fall asleep  while in the middle of a party or during a run.
-You might hallucinate
